This page made me think and learn about Bokeh: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh >>or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image. Bokeh has been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light". However, differences in lens aberrations and aperture shape cause some lens designs to blur the image in a way that is pleasing to the eye, while others produce blurring that is unpleasant or distracting—"good" and "bad" bokeh, respectively. Bokeh occurs for parts of the scene that lie outside the depth of field. << I've been playing with it for awhile but didn't know there was a field of study for light blurs.:)
No ! neither did I. I often go for totally airbrushed and non-focussed backgrounds, on my later comics. A few people have criticised my comics as blurry, but the eye, in the real world, would have an unfocussed background when looking at figures. Nice to see you back, btw. ...I will be soon, too...my son came home with my new HP lappie and I've just downloaded Twisted Brush, Yay !
I just looked up Twisted Brush and it looks awfully fun. You know, I have not experimented much with brushes at all -- must look into that. Hope you get back soon, too. I hope to upload every 2-3 wks myself.
bokeh happens at times like a car accident or in battle.
Perhaps for those of us who draw, it happens during the creation process...
Yes... also rain and streetlight reflections on glass, city lights in the distance... I'm going to notice this a lot more now.
Marita does seem rather aggressive, maybe she's on steroids?
I get bokeh after about 3 glasses of wine.
Being nearsighted also helps me appreciate Bokeh -- lights can be quite pleasing without my glasses.
I think Bokeh is a technique that should be used wisely to represent stuff like lights through rain or to enhance a close-up. You do very well with your art in that you pick out the important details like facial expressions and hand gestures etc. and let those take precedence so I guess it's down to taste more than anything.
Lotsa good bokeh in here. :)
